The anniversary exhibition
With our anniversary exhibition, we look back on 10 years of Galerie Lachenmann Art, on over 100 exhibitions and projects realized, numerous trade fairs, festivals and events. The exhibition shows the multifaceted range of the gallery program, presents artistic positions of the past decade and focuses on emphasizing the diversity. In addition to well-known positions that have repeatedly appeared in solo and group exhibitions since the gallery was founded, new names appear in this exhibition. The works shown mark visual highlights and thus tell the history of our gallery in direct connection with our artists.
The Gallery
On October 18, 2014, Juliane and Steffen Lachenmann opened their gallery in Konstanz in a former ship warehouse. By 2019, a wide variety of exhibition concepts had been realized in the gallery rooms on the Seerhein, which are characterized by industrial charm: the ›Grand Opening‹ laid the foundation for an ongoing series of successful exhibitions; with ›Berlin Girls‹, Juliane Lachenmann brought the flair of the capital to Lake Constance and was also inspired by a Berlin format in 2015 with ›Schwarzmarkt‹: here she brings together almost 100 regional artists for the first time and shows what the Lake Constance region has to offer artistically.
In addition to solo and group exhibitions, the gallery also showed its broad artistic program at national and international fairs in Karlsruhe, Berlin, Basel, Miami and many more in the following years and designed comprehensive and high-quality catalogs to accompany the exhibitions. In 2018, Lachenmann Art opened a second location in the heart of Frankfurt am Main and then for six years operated the largest gallery for contemporary art in the Main metropolis on over 600 square meters. New artists were included in the gallery program, new friends were gained and new exhibition concepts were launched. Only a short time later, after almost five years, Lachenmann Art left the premises in the old Polywerft in Konstanz, moved into a renovated old building on Kreuzlingerstrasse, opposite the Schnetztor, and transformed itself from a white cube into a cabinet of exquisite art.
In the following years, both locations were used continuously, thus always presenting three large, individually curated exhibitions at the same time. With the outbreak of the pandemic and the severe restrictions on cultural life, the gallery faced one of its greatest challenges. But even during this time, the Lachenmann Art team is showing innovation and drive: at the beginning of 2022, the new location in Konstanz will be moved into with a grand reopening. In Konstanz's Paradies, the team renovated the rooms of a former printing works after months of preparation.
With 300 square meters and five-meter-high rooms, the gallery returned to a white cube-shaped exhibition space in Konstanz and has since realized sensational exhibitions on a large scale.
Ten years
With our anniversary exhibition, we are celebrating all the experiences and impressions, successes and challenges that we have been able to experience in ten years of Galerie Lachenmann Art. We are not only looking back at the past, but also looking forward to the future and what the coming years have in store for us.
