The anniversary exhibition
With our anniversary exhibition, we look back on 10 years of Galerie Lachenmann Art, over 100 realized exhibitions and projects, and numerous fairs, festivals, and events. The exhibition showcases the multifaceted breadth of the gallery's program, presents artistic positions from the past decade, and emphasizes its rich diversity. Alongside established artists who have appeared repeatedly in solo and group exhibitions since the gallery's founding, new names emerge in this exhibition. The works on display represent visual highlights and thus tell the story of our gallery in direct connection with our artists.
The gallery
On October 18, 2014, Juliane and Steffen Lachenmann opened their gallery in Konstanz in a former ship warehouse. Until 2019, a wide variety of exhibition concepts were realized in the gallery spaces, characterized by their industrial charm, on the banks of the Seerhein: the ›Grand Opening‹ laid the foundation for an ongoing series of successful exhibitions; with ›Berlin Girls‹, Juliane Lachenmann brought the flair of the capital to Lake Constance; and in 2015, with ›Schwarzmarkt‹, she was again inspired by a Berlin format: here, she brought together almost 100 regional artists for the first time, showcasing what the Lake Constance region has to offer artistically.
In addition to solo and group exhibitions, the gallery showcased its broad artistic program at national and international art fairs in Karlsruhe, Berlin, Basel, Miami, and many other cities in the following years, producing comprehensive and high-quality exhibition catalogs. In 2018, Lachenmann Art opened a second location in the heart of Frankfurt am Main, subsequently operating for six years as the largest contemporary art gallery in the city, spanning over 600 square meters. New artists were added to the gallery's roster, new partners were gained, and new exhibition concepts were developed. Just a short time later, after nearly five years, Lachenmann Art left its premises in the old Polywerft shipyard in Konstanz, moving into a renovated historic building on Kreuzlingerstrasse, opposite the Schnetztor gate, and transforming from a white cube into a cabinet of exquisite art.
In the following years, both locations were continuously used, thus always presenting three large, individually curated exhibitions simultaneously. With the outbreak of the pandemic and the severe restrictions on cultural life, the gallery faced one of its greatest challenges. But even during this time, the Lachenmann Art team demonstrated innovation and drive: at the beginning of 2022, the new location in Konstanz was opened with a grand reopening. In Konstanz's Paradies district, the team spent months renovating the premises of a former printing works.
With 300 square meters and five-meter-high rooms, the gallery returned to a white cube-style exhibition space in Konstanz and has since been realizing sensational exhibitions on a large scale.
Ten years
With our anniversary exhibition, we celebrate all the experiences and impressions, successes and challenges we have encountered in ten years of Galerie Lachenmann Art. In doing so, we not only look back on the past, but also forward with joy to the future and what the coming years hold for us.
