Jukka Rusanen's works on canvas are characterized by pastel tones and an unmistakable style, through which the artist's signature is inscribed almost effortlessly in the work. Elements that are sometimes applied in a pasty manner are contrasted with powdery colors and are reminiscent of the Rococo, from which the artist draws his inspiration. The moment of pure materiality on the canvas is always contrasted with moments of haptic shaping and materializes into something figurative when viewed. An almost inexplicable tension between calm, monotonous surfaces and wildly expressive traces of color determines the artist's work and builds to a crescendo of delicate lightness and thunderous brutality. The works presented were created in recent years and provide a deep insight into the Finnish artist's oeuvre, in which, in addition to physicality and floral elements, the themes of textile art and traditional weaving are repeatedly inscribed.
