Collection: Ji Eun Lee
The unique works of the artist Ji Eun Lee captivate with an unknown visual effect, which is primarily generated by the materials used. The willow branches cast in cast resin materialize into semi-opaque objects in which unexpected structures and patterns arise. The artist describes her creative process and the thematic focus of her work with the words: "I have been dealing with the topic of negative space for a long time. The transition between negative and positive space by molding surfaces fascinates me. In some earlier studies, I closed small gaps in everyday objects with silicone. Recently, I have often used wickerwork as a starting material, for example from wicker baskets. I am particularly interested in the diverse structures and different haptics that become visible in the weaving process. As a cultural object, wickerwork has been particularly inspiring for my artistic work in the past." Ji Eun Lee was born in Seoul, South Korea. Today she lives and works in Munich, after completing her studies as a master student under Prof. Hoernschemeyer at the Art Academy in Düsseldorf. Before that she studied sculpture at the University of the Arts in Bremen and at Kookmin University in Seoul.
