The artwork ›Nausicaa. Study n.1‹ from 2022 is an analogue black and white photograph printed by hand on watercolor paper then applied to wood and covered with resin and it is a unique print. The work is an example of the artist's extraordinary ability to capture moments that recall dreamlike scenarios and other times or countries. All her photographs are taken in her native Sicily and developed by hand in her studio in Berlin. Valentina Murabito chooses unconventional materials for her photographs, mostly industrial pieces from construction sites, but also, more recently, fabric, brass or glass.
The Italian artist Valentina Murabito (*1981 Giarre/Italy) is known for her unusual use of analog photography. She exposes wood, steel, concrete and entire walls. "For me, photography is first and foremost a light drawing in which I guide the pen. I am referring here to the beginnings of photography, the origin of the medium, which was primarily a manual printing process, the result of which existed physically.
The craftsmanship is important to me, which makes each of my works unique,” is how the artist describes her creative process. Valentina Murabito studied graphic design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Catania, Italy, from 2004 to 2009 and, thanks to two scholarships, went to the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design in Budapest, where she had day and night access to the photo lab and materials. During this time, she began to experiment without limits with analog photography. This process continues to this day.
