While in ›Composition 22‹ the increasingly larger areas are inscribed in the image space in the form of diamonds, in ›Composition 23‹ the uniform square remains the dominant geometric shape. Veit von Seckendorff shows us here how completely different perceptions can be achieved with simple effects based on a consistent material.
Both works can be clearly classified as Op Art because of their play with our perception, the gaze and the structured surface. The reduction to the simple contrast of light and dark colors is to be understood as one of the most important characteristics of optical art, which aims to achieve illusory effects in observation using the simplest of means. Veit von Seckendorff transfers this approach to the works of his most recent creative phase.
The Lachenmann Art Gallery is delighted to present the works of the renowned artist Veit von Seckendorff, who was born in Munich in 1937 and is a member of the Taunus Artists' Association. Von Seckendorff is a master of the "School of Seeing", whose declared aim is to promote "learning to see better". His works of art are convincing lessons from this special school, which tries to awaken a deep interest in seeing and the gaze through every line and movement on the canvas. Without challenging deeper questions of content, these works invite you to experience the subtle movements of seeing. Inspired by abstracted organic formations, von Seckendorff goes his own, new way and emancipates himself from great role models such as Hans Arp. We invite you on a visual journey that puts seeing at the center.
