Clear lines, simple elegance and a reduction in colour characterise his works, which initially appear sober. The classic limitations of the art of painting are overcome and the space is taken over by the accurate formations. The first impression of the works is usually deceptive: what initially appears sober and neutral is subverted by Lechner using subtle means. Lechner detaches the artwork from its physical existence, shifts it into the ephemeral and juggles with the viewer's perception. Lechner's style has been described as ‘contemporary baroque’, characterised by the juxtaposition of different levels of spatial dimensions that are manipulated to create a visually overwhelming experience.
